How will the Olympics Paris 2024 benefit the economy? ARD 's financial editorial team put the question to sports economist and ISM professor Prof. Dr. Timo Zimmermann.

Because, as always, major sporting events are associated with high economic stimuli. But what effects can actually be expected? So far, the hoped-for effects of almost all Olympic events have fallen short of expectations. As a rule, experts assume that Olympic Games cost three to five billion. Timo Zimmermann, Head of the Strategic Sport Management Master's program at the International School of Management, Germany (ISM), puts it this way:  “We very often see that the actual costs massively exceed this range. Even in Paris, we are now almost double that amount,” says the sports economist, who teaches at the ISM Campus Dortmund. In the interview for ARD Tagesschau, he also describes how the importance of sponsoring for the Olympics has increased over the years. Listen to the full interview here.
